Mystery of the month – looking for a soldier’s photo.

Insignia of the Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders

We’ve received an interesting request from Tina Hansen of Whitehorse, Yukon to try and locate a photo of Lionel Murch Way, a fallen soldier of World War II.

The photo would be used on memorial cards that are being placed with the graves of soldiers this August for visiting veterans and their families. Any help is greatly appreciated. If you have a photograph to help this cause, please let us know at research@seventhtownresearch.com and we’ll pass on your info.

Here’s some information that may help locate his photo:

  • Born August 2 1915 in Belleville to Walter and Eva Pearl (Stapley) Way.
  • Died February 27 1945 in Germany.
  • His wife’s name was Alice Margaret
  • He was a soldier with the Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders.

50,000 new land records added

Over 50 thousand additional land records have been added to our online index. The new records cover Madoc Township and the City of Belleville. This brings the total number of indexed Hastings County land records to over 200,000!

Over 130,000 new records added to our Land Records database

We’ve almost doubled the number of records that are searchable in our Land Records database!  Over 130,000 records have been indexed and added to our online database, making the total of searchable records now over 280,000. The database allows researchers to search on a name and find land records associated with that particular individual.  Copies of selected records may be obtained by request (see the instructions provided in the database application).

The original Hastings County Land Records were deposited in the Marilyn Adams Genealogical Research Centre (MAGRC) by the Government of Ontario. They contain original abstract books that date back to patent. The original instruments (such as mortages and some wills) cover the time period from 1867 to 1955.
