Thinking of visiting us?

Before planning a visit to our research facility, please keep in mind the following:

COVID policy – In order to protect our volunteers and guests to the fullest extent possible, we will be enforcing the use of face coverings while inside our facility and requiring guests to provide valid proof of vaccination or exemption.

Book or call in advance – We are also limiting the number of visitors to one or two people at a time.
We have a useful online booking tool that allows you to select available time slots.
If you’re thinking of dropping in on short notice, please call us at the centre at: 1 613.967.6291. Remember that we are only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so that is when we pick up phone or email messages.
If you’d like to arrange another date to visit, contact us well in advance at research@seventhtownresearch.com. We’ll try and organize a team of volunteers to work that day.

We can also research our collections for you if visiting is not an option. Our fee is $20 per hour plus nominal charges for documents or scans. Email us for more information or use our online index databases to do your own search for records in our collections. See the Names database or Land Records database (index by name).

We thank all of our guests for their understanding in these times.

Opening update

Now that Ontario has entered Step 3, here are our business hours and restrictions:

We are open with volunteers on staff Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We are restricting capacity to ensure safe social distancing and masks are still required by visitors.

We are accepting research visits by appointment only. Please book at least a week in advance so we can prepare for your visit. Note that we are only booking in one guest at a time.

There are three ways to book:

1. Use our online booking system

2. Call the office at 613 967-6291

3. Email research@seventhtownresearch.com

If you’re thinking of passing by on the spur of the moment, please call ahead to avoid disappointment.

Thinking of volunteering? The more volunteers, the more research requests and visitors we can accommodate. Drop us a line at: volunteer@seventhtownresearch.com.

We’re reopening!

Now that the province has entered Step 2, we are ready to resume our work at the Marilyn Adams Genealogical Research Centre.

Our operating days and hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and while many of our volunteers will be back we will only be open to the public by appointment to ensure we don’t exceed capacity. (instructions for booking are below).

We’re also looking for volunteers

We have many volunteer positions available to suit almost any interest or skill. Contact us at volunteer@seventhtownresearch.com for more information.

How to book a research visit appointment

There are many ways to let us know that you’d like to visit our facilities for your own family research.

  • Book online. Use the booking form on this website. Select one of the available time slots and we’ll get back to you to confirm the appointment.
  • Email us at research@seventhtownresearch.com. Bear in mind that we might not necessarily check emails when we’re closed, so do this at least a week or so in advance.
  • Phone us at 613.967.6291. Our pbones are only answered on our open days, so please bear that in mind. If you haven’t made an appointment and would like to drop by, please call first to see if we can accommodate you on short notice.

When planning your visit, give us as much information about your search requirements as possible (names, dates of birth/death/marriage, location) so that we can prepare to make your visit as productive as possible.
