Land record books

Over 130,000 new records added to our Land Records database

We’ve almost doubled the number of records that are searchable in our Land Records database!  Over 130,000 records have been indexed and added to our online database, making the total of searchable records now over 280,000. The database allows researchers to search on a name and find land records associated with that particular individual.  Copies of selected records may be obtained by request (see the instructions provided in the database application).

The original Hastings County Land Records were deposited in the Marilyn Adams Genealogical Research Centre (MAGRC) by the Government of Ontario. They contain original abstract books that date back to patent. The original instruments (such as mortages and some wills) cover the time period from 1867 to 1955.

Myra Crook (1925-2017)

Portrait of Myra Crook

Myra Crook

We are sad to report that Myra (Allan) Crook has passed away at the age of 92. Myra was a cousin of Marilyn Adams, and they each shared a passion for History and Genealogy. Myra’s extensive research covered many families of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. She was related to Weese, Allan, Haight, Salisbury, Brown, Adams, and numerous other families. Her meticulous preservation of family records and local history has been donated to our collection.

We are forever in her debt.

Notice something new?

Welcome to our new website!

We’ve completely re imagined our website to provide a greater variety of content and functionality.

On our home page in addition to 7th Town news, you’ll find interesting stories about some of our collections and activities. We’ve added more information about our collections and holdings, made the site more responsive and usable on mobile devices, and, of course, continued to feature easy access to our popular searchable databases.

In the coming months, we’ll be adding more online forms (last fall we introduced online membership applications and book ordering), updating our databases and adding some special features exclusive to members, and more. So keep visiting.

We hope you find this new site a much more enjoyable experience.
