Opening update

Now that Ontario has entered Step 3, here are our business hours and restrictions:

We are open with volunteers on staff Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

We are restricting capacity to ensure safe social distancing and masks are still required by visitors.

We are accepting research visits by appointment only. Please book at least a week in advance so we can prepare for your visit. Note that we are only booking in one guest at a time.

There are three ways to book:

1. Use our online booking system

2. Call the office at 613 967-6291

3. Email research@seventhtownresearch.com

If you’re thinking of passing by on the spur of the moment, please call ahead to avoid disappointment.

Thinking of volunteering? The more volunteers, the more research requests and visitors we can accommodate. Drop us a line at: volunteer@seventhtownresearch.com.

We’re reopening!

Now that the province has entered Step 2, we are ready to resume our work at the Marilyn Adams Genealogical Research Centre.

Our operating days and hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and while many of our volunteers will be back we will only be open to the public by appointment to ensure we don’t exceed capacity. (instructions for booking are below).

We’re also looking for volunteers

We have many volunteer positions available to suit almost any interest or skill. Contact us at volunteer@seventhtownresearch.com for more information.

How to book a research visit appointment

There are many ways to let us know that you’d like to visit our facilities for your own family research.

  • Book online. Use the booking form on this website. Select one of the available time slots and we’ll get back to you to confirm the appointment.
  • Email us at research@seventhtownresearch.com. Bear in mind that we might not necessarily check emails when we’re closed, so do this at least a week or so in advance.
  • Phone us at 613.967.6291. Our pbones are only answered on our open days, so please bear that in mind. If you haven’t made an appointment and would like to drop by, please call first to see if we can accommodate you on short notice.

When planning your visit, give us as much information about your search requirements as possible (names, dates of birth/death/marriage, location) so that we can prepare to make your visit as productive as possible.

Help us create a history hub in Ameliasburgh

The McDougall Family Fund contest will be awarding three prizes worth a total of $10,000 to local charities, non-profit organizations or community projects. The community will vote who the winners will be.

We have entered a submission entitled “Creating the Ameliasburgh History Hub” and we hope you will support us. Ameliasburgh was once a vibrant and bustling village. We believe that by establishing a Heritage Hub that showcases its many heritage assets we can create a destination concept devoted to heritage and history. By pooling our resources, developing new products and experiences, and marketing the Hub, we can overcome challenges with funding and volunteer recruitment/retention – and awaken broader interest in our area’s rich history.

Vote for our project by May 31.
