Think of us this Giving Tuesday

December 2 is Giving Tuesday and we’re using the occasion to launch our 2026 fundraising campaign.

Why are we fundraising?

We remain incredibly grateful for the amazing bequest of Marilyn Adams that inspired and created the Marilyn Adams Genealogical Research Centre. While the income from that bequest continues to be our major source of funding, we still need to rely on the generosity of our members, visitors and others to ensure we can cover our operating costs, continue to provide services to family researchers, and plan for growth.

How your donation can help:

  • $50 covers office supplies for a month
  • $100 pays for our Picton fair booth
  • $500 covers our web hosting services for a year
  • $1000 covers our advertising costs for a year

Our fundraising goal for 2026 is just $2000 (of course, we’d be thrilled to go beyond that). Visit our fundraising page at Canada Helps to see how we’re doing and donate now.

The history behind the history: A virtual exhibit

Edith D. Taylor Ashton’s book on the history of Dorland’s Creek and its mills is not only an exhaustively researched and comprehensive look into Hillier’s early days but also presents a wider glimpse of the early days of Prince Edward County.

Follow in the footsteps of a historical author and gain an understanding of the breadth of research needed to accurately convey the stories of the past. This exhibit aims to showcase the resources referenced in the making of this book.

Interested in the book? Copies may be purchased from our bookstore.

The mystery of Phebe Hendricks’ gravestone

In the fifth installment of our Greatest Stories Never Told series, Mary Lou Walker recounts how she got to the bottom of the unusual inscription on her 4th great grandmother’s grave marker in the Old Carrying Place Cemetery. Who was the mystery man who placed it?
